  3. The speedometer
  4. displays the
  5. current road speed
  6. of the car.  A
  7. twisted steel cable
  8. connects the
  9. transmission to the
  10. input of the
  11. speedometer.  When
  12. the car is in
  13. motion, the cable
  14. is spun by the
  15. transmission at a
  16. speed proportional
  17. to the road speed. 
  18. The spinning cable
  19. rotates the
  20. speedometer input
  21. shaft.  The input
  22. shaft is connected
  23. to the magnetic
  24. drive in the
  25. speedometer.  As
  26. the magnetic drive
  27. rotates, it pulls
  28. the indicator
  29. needle to the
  30. proper position to
  31. display the current
  32. road speed.
